Book Your Favorite Show When Travel

It doesn’t come as a surprise that each of us would like to be on a talk show, at least once in a lifetime. In particular, if this show is popular with you and your family at home.

But only a few of us know that it’s very much possible, and sometimes - at no cost, but you might want to book it in advance. A few stand-by or ‘day of’ tickets can be available, but not always, as many, and many people learn that it’s rather easy to get tickets to the show.

The talk shows are not filled with people requested by a TV personality/host, these people are from street – that is, these people either happen to be in the area and know where the ticket booths are, or these people requested tickets online before a visit to the city where a show is filmed.

If you are planning to be in Los Angeles or New York, be it over the holidays or all year around, you can fulfill your dream of being on your favorite talk show: David Letterman, Jay Leno (catch him before he lives his stint at NBC this month!), Conan O'Brien (who will be replacing Jay Leno as of May 30, 2009), Ellen DeGeneres, or Jimmy Fallon – the new kid on the block. Go to CBS site for tickets to The Late Show with David Letterman and to NBC site for tickets to The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brian.

The Late Show with David Letterman is taped in New York City. For tickets information, visit here.

The Tonight Show with Jay Leno is taped in Los Angeles. For ticket information, go to NBC official site.

The Ellen DeGeneres show is taped in Burbank, CA (a part of Los Angeles), and you can get your tickets here.

You can request tickets online in advance, and the sites tells you how, by simply clicking on available dates on the calendar provided on the site. Then fill out a request form. Certain limitations apply, such as being able to request only one day of the show (so make it work for everyone who is coming with you to the show; check everyone’s availability before you fill out a request form.)

You can also buy tickets on a day of performance – the so-called stand-by or “Day Of” tickets. However, only a very limited number of tickets available this day, and you never know if there’d be any. So, if you know for sure that you want to make this show part of your travel itinerary, I’d suggest requesting tickets in advance.

For the ‘day of” tickets, call 818.954.5929. Be sure to call before noon PST.

The Jimmy Kimmel Live show
You have an option of getting tickets online or by phone. Online go to 1iota.com, and fill out a request and expect to receive a notification by e-mail within a week of the taping date. Or you can request tickets by phone, just call 866-JIMMY-TIX weekdays between 1 and 4 p.m.

Late Night with Conan O’Brien
You have an option of getting tickets by phone or as stand-by. Call Conan’s ticket office at 212-664-3056. You can request up to 4 tickets only, and you are allowed to request tickets every six months. You would need to meet with the rest of the audience at NBC Studios marquee at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, NYC. Stand-bys are very rare, to be exact – one standby ticket per person will be issued on a day of the show, but no guarantees of entrance. With this show, don’t expect to get tickets on the day of the show, when you call.

(“Conan O’Brien, the incoming host of NBC’s “Tonight Show,” says that his initial reaction to the news that the current “Tonight” host, Jay Leno, was getting a new nightly prime-time show on the network was one of concern — but only for 90 minutes,” - New York Times’ TV Decoder.)

Live! With Regis and Kelly

If you are betting on your luck to get stand-by, arrive at the studio no later than 7 a.m., however all stand-by tickets are first-come, first-served, so you are not guraunteed there’ll be enough for all.

The tapings occur Monday through Friday, 9 a.m., at the ABC Studios at 7 Lincoln Square (Columbus Ave. and West 67th Street) on the Upper West Side.

Not my cup of tea, but you’re a fan, not only you can get tickets to The Jerry Springer Show, but you can even participate! Go to the official site of The Jerry Springer Show. You can choose a show by topics of your interest. Scroll up and down the site and read all the information. Once you’ve decided on a topic, call the specified toll-free number associated with the topic. Or e-mail. When done “pitching” yourself for a “guest” spot, don’t contact The Jerry Springer Show regarding your submission. Producers will contact you.
