Street fashion: best sites for global street style

The influence of street fashion bloggers has been tremendous over the past few years. It started as a hobby for some fashion-forward and fashion-aware partisans, but it grew to the scale of strong influencers who take first row seats at some of the most prominent fashion shows around the world.
That is – it all started with The Sartorialist, one of my favorite fashion street bloggers. Now it’s fashionable to spot, photograph, and write about the street fashion. And it made some amateur names of your friends you used to share a conversation about street mode over coffee into some of most regarded and influential names in the fashion industry.

From designers, personal stylists to fashion magazine editors and celebrities, everyone logs in hours online checking those street fashion bloggers who just happened to having taken up the web space earlier than the others. (You can’t blame Malevich for drawing the Black Square way before we could claim that we could do it just as well too.)

With a mere knowledge of web design, photo downloads, and an average use of digital cameras, those women and men - some of whom are still in college - now influence the top people in the fashion world, not to say billions of regular folks, like us.
Today’s fastest fashion reporters are everywhere we are: streetbloggers. Even though street bloggers know where to go to snap photos of the most fashionable people – Milan, Tokyo, Moscow, Paris, and, of course, New York, these bloggers go to locations other than metro cities, and within few hours – those people on the street can be viewed by millions around the world.

Some might say that these fast streetbloggers are causing misbalance within traditional fashion trend-spotters – like magazines and newspapers, on one hand. On the other hand, their outreach to regular people makes them so likeable – and competitive at the same time. They definitely keep those fashion moguls on their toes.

H&M, Zara, Century 21 and even Marc Jacobs look for what’s out there on the streets that so strikingly fresh and hip before anyone else can catch it. But what it all comes down to liking these street fashion bloggers is that real people are interested in real people. It’s that simple.

Here are some of most popular street fashion bloggers of today:
London, Glam Canyon
Sao Paulo, Freak Style
Asia, Manila
London, Stylescout
Asia, Bryan Boy

Some styles to look for on the streets, from spring to fall:

Tailoring – clean, urbane, classic tailoring has always been trendy, and now you have twice as much reasoning to wear your favorite tailored suit.

Fringe Details - just think of spring’s collection from Alexander McQueen, Jil Sander, Alberta Ferretti ,and Jean-Paul Gaultier.

Tearing Up – now you can definitely wear those rebel jeans that you wore till they fell apart. And anything that is with a hole, torn apart – now it’s fashionable.
And of course - color, color, and more color.

That reminds me, it’s lunch time and it means – it’s time for my dose of latte and The Sartorialist.

Hi! My name is Sophie and I am about to move to Madrid for seven months. I wanted to look into some "must have" clothing that are staples in Madrid. I do NOT want to look like a tourist so I wanted to see if you had some ideas! Thanks!
Dear Sophie,
Thank you very much for your comment and inquiry. First of all - good luck with the move, I'm sure you'd enjoy the beautiful Madrid! Second of all - Madrid is like many other European cities, in terms of fashion, and it is no different than how people dress in, let's say, San Francisco, New York or Boston. One thing I can suggest to you for sure, check out Zara - it's the Spanish clothing store chain. It seemed to me that half of Spain is dressed in their native Zara clothing. If you go with Zara, you'll not be wrong. Go to: http://zara.com/#/en_GB/Spy%20City/Madrid/
